The winter swell is definitely here! And the last few weeks we’ve been incredibly lucky with some huge waves and excellent conditions for surf.
As a general rule, the stretch of Moroccan coast our lovely surf camp is located on, follows a pattern: the waves are bigger slightly to the south of us and become smaller the further north you go (until you reach Tamri!).
We are located directly opposite Crocodile beach (named for the shape the hill makes, not for any unwanted reptiles!). If you rolled a ball out of the door of Surf Star, it would end up on Crocodile beach!
Just a little further south, to the left of Crocs as you look out to see, is the surf spot Devil’s Rock. This offers both a great point and beach break, depending on the size of the swell.

Just a bit more to south you come to Banana point, a more advanced point break for intermediate/advanced surfers, which involves either jumping out from the rocks if the tide is high enough, or a huge paddle out at low tide if you’re feeling strong enough! Amazing long open waves are your prize in the right conditions.
The furthest south we generally go is to Anza. When the swell is too small outside on our local beach, we can usually find awesome waves at this small bay. A wide spot offering both a left and right peak, with another peak in the middle.
Currently, the swell has been a bit on the big side! Which means we’ve been able to hit up the beaches a little further to the north. The first one we come to is K17 – a favourite at low tide when the rocks act like a fun point break, but there’s also the whole beach for beginner level waves.
When it’s really big swell, we head up past Taghazout and beyond to Camel beach. This also has a perfect mix of beach break and a point when the waves are big enough, meaning every level can surf together. This has been the most popular surf spot for us the last couple of weeks, thanks to the awesome winter swell!
